Soviet Cold War Fighters looks at the main periods of the development of the Soviet fighter designs, generation by generation, covering all the important features and developments of each generation (a total of four generations of fighter developed from the late 1940s to the late 1970s/early 1980s) and the most emblematic combat employments of the members of the generation. In separate boxes, pilot/designer/maintainer comments are inserted as well as other interesting facts and figures about the aircraft, their weapons and the instances of combat employment. Soviet Cold War Fighters explains the Cold War background of the technological developments behind the front-line fighter types in the Soviet Union, detailing where, when and how these aircraft were deployed and what was their impact on the Cold War developments, especially their role for delivering tactical nuclear weapons or their capability to counter attacks by US/NATO strategic bombers, carrying nuclear weapons.
